lowfat brownie trifle

 

 

  • 1 box lowfat brownie mix (betty crocker makes one)
  • 2 pkgs. sugar free chocolate pudding mix (or two 4-packs of the pre-made kind if you want)
  • 1 container fat free caramel sauce or dip
  • 1 pkg heath bits
  • 1 container cool whip (not lite)*

 

bake brownies in 9×13 pan and let cool. cut in squares and put half of them in the bottom of a trifle bowl. spread half of pudding on top, then half of caramel, half of heath bits, and half of cool whip. make another complete layer and garnish with shaved dark chocolate, heath bits and/or chocolate syrup, if desired. chill or serve immediately. 

*the fat free and light kinds don’t hold up quite right, it starts to separate and get clumpy. but you can do it if you want!

it’s a really pretty dish, too!

note: i have also made a spin on this substituting angel food cake for the brownies, and using vanilla pudding, fresh fruit (pineapple, blueberries and strawberries, yum!) and cool whip.
